OUR STORY

Standing firm on the bank of the fast-flowing, crystal-clear waters of the Laxey or ‘Salmon’ river, deep in the heart of the valley, Laxey Woollen Mills is a unique part of our island’s heritage and one of the integral aspects that has given the Isle of Man its unique ‘entire nation’ biosphere status.

Wool is our passion. In the capable hands of visionary master weaver John Wood, it is transformed using the same techniques our ancestors used to make our beautiful and sumptuously warm contemporary textiles.

Wool is the perfect raw material for what we do: slow fashion.

Creativity and craftsmanship are fundamental to our textiles. We believe that good design and high-quality manufacture work together to maximise the durability and lifespan of our products.

Creating beautiful, purposeful clothing that is made to last.

Our cosy, woollen blankets are not just for aesthetics. They’re perfect for movie nights in curled up on the sofa or to add an extra layer of warmth to your bed on those chilly winter nights.

Knowledge and respect for how things were done in the past is woven into every bolt of the modern and fashionable tweeds and textiles we make today.

The colours and patterns of our tweeds and cloth are inspired by the island itself. Look around at our emerald hills, golden gorse, sparkling seas, stoney beaches and sun dappled glens and you will see their influence in our weaves. Inspiration is all around us.

We take our impact on the environment seriously and using the wool from our native sheep, the Manx Loaghtan, means that we can keep our carbon footprint to a minimum.

The old looms and machinery at the Mill are part of our heritage with the knowledge and skill to use them being passed on. They make better quality, ethically produced textiles. We are the custodians of them and maintain and care for them for the generations to come.

The quality of the fabric we manufacture is further enhanced when transformed by our tailors to produce the luxury and comfortable clothing you deserve.

We are the custodians of our craft. Whilst our ancestors have paved the way for us, we continually look to develop our designs and collaborate with local creatives to bring you exciting new designs.

We are committed to giving you premium, tailored, timeless designs that focus on comfort, quality and style.

Looking to the future, our focus is on producing sustainable, ethically sourced clothing that you can wear with the knowledge you are contributing to the safeguarding of this traditional craft and the intangible, cultural heritage of the island.
